Appropriate

KingContador is skinny as a whip, truly. And even though he won last year’s Vuelta, where I shot these, he was approachable and at the same time maniacally focused. As to what fuels, his engine: who knows? But the guy is very photogenic - skinny, tan, handsome - and exciting to watch. A week at the beach will cure whatever ails you and now it’s time to get back to the grind. But it’s cool because I’m heading to a part of the country I’ve only driven through and promises to be amazing for photos. In that case travel isn’t so bad after all.

Not Sure Why

ColorsDon’t know why I like this shot so much, but I definitely do. Taken at last year’s Vuelta in Ciudad Real the day before the time trial. I shot 6 days at the Vuelta for a client and came back with a whole load of work I was pretty happy with. But as often happens with this type of thing only two shots ended up getting used and the direction we’d gone into the shoot with was not, in fact, the direction the client ended up using in the campaign. The original idea was pretty unconventional, especially for the bike industry, but, as often happens, between concept and execution convention crept back in. Still, I was super happy with how the ads came out, just sorry we didn’t take it a bit farther out onto that limb.

Pola

Time KillerCouple 4×5 Polaroids shot with CrownGraphic, San Diego in February. The last few packs of color Pola and, man, is it skewing into strange color reproduction. But still. Several packs have been bad, totally unusable, so I suppose I’ll cherish whatever I get from here on out.

So This is Summer?

BeachTo make myself feel better, keeping in mind it’s been raining for like a month straight (or so it seems), I decided to finally scan some of the Polas I shot in San Diego in February. Yeah, I know, not a speedy turnaround. So what’s been happening? Oh, you know, doing a super cool all-film shoot, updating the iPhone, stretching, riding some, mowing the lawn between showers, selling bike stuff, watching my car rust out, going to NYC with K, cooking fish, and looking forward to vacation. We caught up now?
